The Rotary Club of Jamestown is hosting a community-based comprehensive discussion to explore collaborative solutions that will expand the pool of employable adults possessing the skills necessary to fill available Chautauqua County jobs, with a focus on the ways that various community organizations and employers can work together to improve the employability of non-college educated adults. The Rotary Employability Summit will be held at the JCC Carnahan Center on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with four objectives:
1. To educate and update the community on current Chautauqua County employability issues.
2. To expand opportunities for Department of Social Services work participation programs.
3. To improve job placement success through work experience and employer support programs.
4. To explore additional programs with the potential to support improved employability.
"This is a great opportunity for the many public and private organizations with a vested interest in this important community issue to come together and discuss solutions," said Jamestown Rotary Club President Bill Tucker. "We look forward to a community-wide conversation that addresses the various roles of state and local government, local employers and local not-for-profit organizations. This is a timely and important topic for our community."
Two panel discussions will take place in the morning. An Employer Panel, with representatives from the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency, Cummins, The Resource Center, the Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau and the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier will take place from 9:15-10:30 a.m. This will be followed by a Workforce Development Panel discussion from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
A guest speaker is scheduled during lunch, with a focus on testimonials from adults who have successfully dealt with employability issues and who will share their perspective on the issue. The afternoon will include three breakout sessions to discuss work experience programs, effective supporting services and public policy.
