CHERRY CREEK - A Collins man is in Chautauqua County Jail after leading police on a 9-mile pursuit Saturday.
State Police of the Jamestown barracks at 8:15 p.m. observed Donald J. Pfaffenbach, of Quaker Street, parked in a green Chevrolet Trail Blazer in the Chautauqua County DOT salt barn on Route 68 in Cherry Creek. As troopers approached the truck, Pfaffenbach made an unsafe start and sped away.
Police then chased Pfaffenbach, 31, for 9 miles, with speeds ranging from 15-90 mph. The chase ended when Pfaffenbach ditched his vehicle on Center Road and fled on foot into a brush area.
Once arrested, the Collins resident requested medical aid because he injected himself with heroin at the salt barn, police said. Cherry Creek firefighters were dispatched and transported Pfaffenbach to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. The subject was treated and released to State Police.
Pfaffenbach was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, felony first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, reckless driving, speeding and other vehicle and traffic violations, State Police said. He was additionally charged with third-degree fleeing police and resisting arrest.
Pfaffenbach was arraigned in Cherry Creek Court and remanded to County Jail in lieu of bail. No further information was available Sunday night.
