LAKEWOOD - A Pennsylvania man has been committed to Chautauqua County Jail following a physical altercation that sent a child to the hospital.
Police have charged William C. Hussey, 37, of Warren, Pa., for grabbing and twisting the arm and hand of an 11-year-old in a Fairmount Avenue parking lot. Officers said he also grabbed the victim by the neck and threw a shoe at him, striking the child in the mouth, Lakewood-Busti police said.
Hussey was charged with third-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child.
The child was taken to Warren General Hospital by his mother, who notified Warren City Police of the incident. Officers then contacted Lakewood-Busti police.
According to Sgt. Paul Gustafson, investigator for the Lakewood-Busti Police Department, the child received a possible hairline fracture to a right finger. The child also had a bloody lip and scratches to his neck. The injuries were not considered serious, and the child was released.
An investigation led to a warrant being issued for Hussey's arrest; he turned himself into police on Thursday. No further information on the incident, including any possible relation to the child, was available.
"It's obviously very upsetting as a law enforcement representative as well as a parent to investigate incidents involving the injury to a child, in particular during a domestic dispute of this nature," Gustafson said. "This type of situation should never occur and is senseless and very unfortunate."
Hussey was arraigned Thursday in Busti Court and was committed to County Jail.
