GENEVA, Ohio - Jamestown seniors Kylie Wilson and Cienna Simon competed in the Spire Institute Scholastic Showcase on Saturday in Geneva, Ohio.
The high school meet followed the Division I Collegiate Invitational, held earlier in the day, and was billed as an opportunity for high school athletes to showcase their talents to the NCAA Division I coaches in search of potential recruits.
Simon, competing in her specialty, the 60-meter hurdles, finished third in her trial heat running 9.26. She came back later in the finals finishing in fifth place with the identical time of 9.26.
She was .07 off her personal best performance in the event of 9.19, which she ran at Penn State last month.
Wilson competed in two events, the 60-and 200-meter dashes. She registered personal-best performances in both events running 8.02 in her 60 trial heat and finished third. She returned in the finals finishing seventh with a time of 8.14. She also ran her indoor personal best of 26.98 besting her previous indoor best of 27.03, which she also established last month at Penn State.
Coach Ron Graham remarked that it was a "Very hot meet with outstanding performances in every event. Both girls were coming off a weeks rest and tuning up for the Section 6 Championships in two weeks at Fredonia State."
Simon is currently the top seed in the section and is ranked eighth in the state.
Wilson is the current No. 2 seed in the 300 meters in Section 6.
The Section 6 Championships/State Qualifier meet is Feb. 21 at Fredonia State.
