On Jan. 29, the Bemus Point Central School District sponsored by the Bemus Point Faculty Association held a recognition night for military veterans in our area. This took place at Maple Grove Jr.-Sr. High School during halftime of the boys' varsity basketball game.
The night started with association members greeting the veterans and offering them a small American flag as well as a coupon for free admittance into the game and food at the concession stand.
During halftime all the area veterans came to the center court of the gym and were honored with a speech read by Marcus Clark, a rendition of "God Bless America" by Julie Cotter, and thanks given by district employees.
A special guest, Past Commander Sgt. Peter L. Carlo, disabled American veteran from the Korean War Conflict from 1952-54, presented an American flag to both the Bemus Point and Forestville central school districts. He also donated a smaller flag to Boy Scout Troop No. 219.
