Dorothy M. Chesner, 91, of Emeritus of Lakewood, formerly of Bemus Point and Greenhurst Village, passed away Sunday (Feb. 10, 2013), in WCA Hospi-tal.
She was born March 4, 1921, in Hull, England, the daughter of the late Harry and Daisy Fairbrother Smith.
Dorothy was a veteran of the U.S. Army-Women Army Corp (WAC) serving during World War II in England. Prior to retire-ment, she was employed as a court stenographer and executive secretary for Richard Dawson, former Cattaraugus County Dis-trict Attorney.
She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bemus Point, and Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Jamestown.
Dorothy and her husband enjoyed collecting an-tiques, attending flea mark-ets and fishing on Lake Chautauqua. She was also an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching NBA basketball and NFL football. Dorothy was also an animal lover, especially of cats, and always donated to several animal rights organ-izations. She was also recognized by Chautauqua County for her 15 years of volunteer service at the St. Luke's Thrift Shop.
Surviving are her son, Douglas Chesner of LaGrange, Ill.; her daughter, Donna Chesner of Tucson, Ariz; two grandchildren: Matthew Chesner and Timothy Chesner, both of LaGrange; and a brother, Robert Smith of Buffalo, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Chesner, whom she married August 1947, who died December 1990; and a brother, Doug Smith.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.
Visitation will not be observed.
