BUSTI - Busti resident Diane VanDewark has been honored for her nearly 40 years of public service.
VanDewark has been named the 2012 Municipal Clerk of the Year by the Chautauqua County Municipal Clerks' Association. Recently, during a Busti Town Board meeting, VanDewark was center stage when Jesse Robbins, Busti supervisor, presented her with a plaque and a bouquet of flowers for her accomplishment.
"She is wonderful to work with," Robbins said. "Diane is smart and remembers things well. If you were to design the perfect town clerk, it would be her. There is no better."

Robbins, who was elected supervisor in 2011, just finished his first year in the elected position. He said VanDewark's experience was vital when assisting him with town business.
"I wouldn't have made it through my first year as supervisor without her," he said. "We are lucky to have her as our town clerk."
VanDewark is a charter member of the county Clerks' Association and has served as president, vice president and program director. She is the association's Sunshine Committee and fundraising auctioneer.
VanDewark started working for the town of Busti as a bookkeeper in 1974. Today, she serves as the town clerk and tax collector. She has been clerk since 1992. Altogether, she has served Busti residents for 38 years.
By attending clerks' meetings, going to the annual clerks' training classes and participating in other educational seminars and programs, VanDewark has become a registered municipal clerk.
VanDewark is a clerk her colleagues and constituents can rely on and respect, said Deanna Crossley, Sherman clerk.
"Through her professionalism, compassion, humor, friendliness and willingness to serve and help others, she is an excellent role model for other clerks in the association," Crossley said.
