Murl and Barbara Aten of Bemus Point, N.Y., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Jan. 27, 2013, with a family dinner at Alfie's Restaurant. The celebration was hosted by their family. They are the parents of Sherry (Larry) Johnson of Attica, N.Y., Julie (Scott) Spencer of Trophy Club, Texas, and Gayle (Mick) Pereira Longview, Texas, and the foster parents of Denise (Dennis) Doonan of Bronx, N.Y. They also have seven grandchildren. Out of state guest attended from Pennsylvania.
Aten and the former Barbara Toogood were married Jan. 23, 1953, in United Methodist Church, Big Rapids, Mich. The Rev. Bowker performed the ceremony.
Aten is retired from Blodgett Uncrated Furn Services. Mrs. Aten had been employed by Maple Grove High School and the town of Ellery. They are members of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Ellery Center.
