Zonta Club of Jamestown is dedicated to giving back to the community, so when Bob Terreberry decided to raise funds for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Washington, D.C., the club wanted to participate and donate to his cause. Zonta gave a donation to the Jamestown Breast Cancer Support Group in honor of all the support Bob and Irene Terreberry have given Zonta's fundraising efforts.
The walk, being held in May, has donated more than $440 million to breast cancer programs since 2003. Terreberry and his wife, Irene, are members of Team Golden Girls, which has set a fundraising goal of $25,000 for the 2013 walk.
The Zonta Club's Lily's Hope efforts were perfect for this fundraising event, especially when Lily's Hope is a resource for women in Chautauqua County undergoing cancer treatment who need a wig, cap, turban or scarf due to their treatment and loss of hair.
Terreberry sat outside of Friendly's restaurant until he managed to sell all of the bracelets. The buzz began, and with Terreberry so involved in the community, it wasn't long before people started going down to support him.
Zonta Club was impressed with the outreach and support Terreberry received, along with the awareness for breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Zonta Club of Jamestown is dedicated to improving the status of women locally and worldwide. And, by being able to provide items free of charge to those women in need during cancer treatments, Zonta is supporting the mission. This room is sponsored by the Zonta Club of Jamestown and in partnership with WCA Hospital. This is the only local facility of this nature.
If you, or a woman you know is in need of this service, contact Toni DeAngelo at WCA Hospital to set up a time to view and try wigs, caps or scarves. Donations of wigs, caps, scarves or turbans are greatly appreciated and accepted.
Monetary donations are also accepted. Make checks payable to Zonta Club of Jamestown with "Lily's Hope" on the subject line and send to PO BOX 913, Jamestown NY 14701. You may also call 664-8670.
