LANCASTER - The Jamestown indoor track and field teams competed in the third Varsity Select Meet on Saturday and despite the slick surface and the rounded-rectangle shape of the track, the team put in stellar performances, including an unlikely new school record.
Olivia Zabrodsky started her day with a second-place finish in the 1,000-meter run. Her time of 3:08.9 is a new school record, eclipsing the 3:11.5 set by Kailey Harvey in 2006 (which was set on the faster track at Fredonia State).
Zabrodsky led the whole race, but was nipped at the finish line.
She followed it up with a third in the 1,500 in 5:12.1, her second-fastest time of the season.
Michael Capestrani also had a good day in the 1,000, starting off hard and finishing second with a 2:49.6 performance.
Nick Lombardo and Steven Nowell took second and sixth in the 50 hurdles while Cienna Simon and Summer Haight took first and sixth.
Nowell also took fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet-6 while Brielle Edborg hit her season best jump of 5-0 for second place.
Awsten Beaver was fourth in the pole vault with a leap of 11-6.
Da'Quan Hollingsworth took third in the 50 in 6.2 seconds while Mitchell Moore took first in the 600 in 1:33.0. Michael Watson and Henry Tapia took second and fifth in the 300.
Hollingsworth, Lombardo, Watson and Moore joined up for a 4:00.4 finish in the 1,600 relay for 4th place.
Sarah Garvin took fourth in the 600 with a 1:53.3 and second in the 300 in 46.1 before joining her teammates Kylie Wilson, Summer Haight and Anna Torres to take second in the 800 relay in 1:59.2.
