CHAUTAUQUA - June Elaine Briggs, 75, of Potter Road, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday (Jan. 28, 2013), in her home.
She was born June 17, 1937, in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Alfred and Violet Mabee Newton.
June was a dedicated wife, mother to her three boys and homemaker. She did housekeeping mainly at Chautauqua Institution for several years.
She was a member of Hurlbut Memorial Community United Methodist Church in Chautauqua and the prayer groups at church. She was an active life member for 37 years of the Chautauqua Fire Department, where she was a member of the fire police, and the Chautauqua County Fire Police Association.
June enjoyed reading, her church, the fire department, her "granddaughter," Gwen the Great Dane, and was a great fan of watching her son, Chris race cars at Lake Erie Speedway.
She is survived by her husband, Royal Briggs Sr., whom she married Feb. 25, 1955, in Chautauqua; three sons: Royal "Butch" (Janet) Briggs Jr. of Chau-tauqua, Alden Briggs of Lanham, Md., and Chris (Paula) Briggs of Chautauqua; seven grandchildren: Rebecca, Heather (Duane), Ashlie, Alisha (Levi), Nathaniel, Kristen and John; six great-grandchildren: Andrew, Alyse, Seven, Juliana, Ella and Evangeline; and a sister, Bonnie (Gary) Bisbee of Cassadaga.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Hurlbut Memorial Community Church in Chautau-qua. The Rev. Paul Womack will officiate. Burial will be in the Chautauqua Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville.
