Portland Man Charged Following Snowmobiling Accident

SHERMAN - Charles M. Shaffer, 53, of Portland was charged with operating a snowmobile without insurance at 12:27 p.m. Thursday at 113 Kendrick St., Sherman.

Police report Shaffer was riding his snowmobile on Trail S 48 when the throttle stuck. Shaffer told police he drove the snowmobile into a large snow pile in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The impact threw Shaffer from his snowmobile. The snowmobile continued through a parking lot and cross Kendrick Street, finally stopping when it hit a house. Neither Shaffer nor the home's occupants were injured.

Shaffer will be in Sherman Town Court later.
