IRONDEQUOIT - The Jamestown Red Raiders found themselves trailing by a point midway through the third quarter of Sunday's first-round basketball game at the Irondequoit Tournament.

Then their defense went to work.

Behind a stingy 2-3 zone, the Red Raiders (10-1) allowed just six points in the final 12 minutes to advance to the championship game by virtue of a 63-44 victory over Edison Tech.

"We did a pretty job in the first half,'' said Jamestown coach Ben Drake, who saw his team lead 34-28 at intermission, "but they came out really aggressive in the third quarter and were getting to the basket.''

Trailing 38-37 at the 4:34 mark, the Red Raiders (10-1) were literally in the zone the rest of the way to advance to today's 2 p.m. title game against host Irondequoit.

"We kept (Edison Tech) out of the lane and forced them into perimeter shots, and we did a great job on the boards.''

Senior Tommy Campion poured in 28 points, and junior Quinn Lee Yaw and sophomore Branden Kellam both had double-doubles to lead Jamestown to a convincing victory.

Campion shot 7 of 18 from the field, including 3 of 7 from the arc, and connected on 11 of 16 free throw attempts. He also had three rebounds and three steals.

"He played very aggressive,'' Drake said.

Lee Yaw and Kellam also had impressive efforts. Lee Yaw scored 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, while Kellam had 14 points and 10 boards for his fourth straight double-double. Together, they shot 13 of 22 from the floor.

"Quinn and Branden were just men tonight,'' Drake said.

Next on tap will be Irondequoit, which also sports a 10-1 mark.

"I think we took a big step tonight as a team,'' Drake said, "because it was a hard-fought game. We just did what we needed to do in the second half. We were really consistent and our offensive execution was good, too.''

NOTES: Sophomore Zack Panebianco led Jamestown in assists with seven. Campion now has 915 career points, vaulting him past Darin Butts and Blake Johnson (both had 898) and into ninth place on the school's all-time list. Raliek Redd and Keefah McCullough both had 12 points to lead Edison Tech, which is a Rochester city school.
