Bettye J. Craven, 82, formerly of Emeritus of Lakewood, passed away Friday (Jan. 18, 2013) at the Brevillier Village Assisted Living Facility, Erie, Pa.
A Jamestown, N.Y., area resident for the past 27 years, she was born June 14, 1930, in Meadville, Pa., a daughter of the late Chester and Margaret Johnson VanSlyke.
She was a graduate of Meadville High School and was a member of the Zion Covenant Church in Jamestown, N.Y.
Surviving is a daughter, Christa Craven (Jill Shaffer) of Erie, Pa.; two sons: Vernon (Lynn McLane) Craven of Frewsburg, N.Y., and Kenneth (Christina Erdley) Craven of Kittanning, Pa.; four grandchildren: Jennifer (Andrew) Nelson of Erie, Pa., Autumn (Brian) Hagberg of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nick Craven and Alex Craven, both of Kittanning. Pa.; a great-grandson, Caleb Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Craven, whom she married May 24, 1954, and who died Sept. 12, 2010; a sister Bonita Quackenbush; and two brothers: Raymond and Milton VanSlyke.
The funeral will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. Third St., Jamestown, N.Y. The Rev. Steve Kilburn of Zion Covenant Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery, Meadville, Pa.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
