Ruth A. Karalus, 76, of Route 380, passed away, Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2013) at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk.
She was born June 30, 1936, in Kennedy, the daughter of Lawrence and Julia Lawson Ormsby.
She was a 1956 graduate of Jamestown Business College, and had been employed as a secretary for 33 years at Brocton Central School. She had been a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, was a member of the Eta Tay Sorority, Brocton, for more than 25 years, and had done many novelty and wedding cakes.

Ruth was survived by three daughters: Lori Karalus of Brocton, Kim (David) Patterson of Forestburgh, N.Y., and Julie Karalus of Amsterdam, N.Y.; a son, Jim Karalus of Brocton; a daughter-in-law, Ang Karalus of Brocton; five grandchildren: Kristina, Jamie and Jimmy Karalus of Brocton, Skyler Karalus of Amsterdam, and Alexandra (Joe) Ringhoff of Schenectady; two great-grandsons: Joey and Jacob Ringhoff of Schenectady; and a brother, Larry (Shirley) Ormsby of Brocton.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harry Karalus, whom she married June 28, 1958, and who died Nov. 25, 2012; and a brother, Richard (Jerry) Ormsby.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Brocton American Legion.
The Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brocton Fire/Emergency Department.
