LANCASTER - The final match decided the Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 undefeated battle between Jamestown and Lancaster on Wednesday night.
The score was tied at 32-32 when it came down to the 195 pound match between Zack Eklum of Jamestown and Jake Empfield of Lancaster.
Empfield, Western New York's second-ranked wrestler, came up with a 7-1 win over Eklum and Jamestown coach Craig Swanson was denied his second straight win over Lancaster and his 200th career victory, 38-32.
The win lifted Lancaster to 6-0 in the league while Jamestown fell to 5-1.
''I can't pinpoint any particular match we should have won,'' said Swanson. ''It was an exciting match and we came up a little bit short.''
The Red Raiders' Mike Southwick raised his record to 19-5 by turning aside Joe Staron at 160 pounds.
Nate Somerton got Jamestown even at 32-32 with a 7-6 win over Jake Godfrey at 182 pounds to set the stage for what turned out to be a tough ending.
Recording pins for the Red Raiders were Mark Conklin at 132 pounds over Jake Recor in 22 seconds and Dakota Lewis at 99 pounds over Joe Andressen in 1:04.
Lancaster won eight matches and Jamestown seven, so, it was only fitting it came down to the final bout. Lancaster was ranked third and Jamestown sixth in the latest large school wrestling poll.
Jamestown's next match is set for 6 p.m., Jan. 26 against visiting West Seneca West at Washington Middle School.

CATTARAUGUS - Dunkirk ran its league wrestling record to 2-5 by defeating Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Pine Valley, 48-31.
The Marauders won nine matches, including forfeits at 285, 99 and 145 pounds, en route to the victory. The defeat left Cattaraugus-Little Valley/ Pine Valley with a 0-7 league record.
From 220 through 120 pounds, the visitors got wins with the fastest at 46 seconds by Alex Jones over Josh Hammond.
Matt Booth started things off on the right foot for Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Pine Valley with a 3:04 fall over Adrian Alvarado at 195 pounds.
Logan Martin of the hosts edged Teddy Griewisch, 6-4, in overtime.
Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Pine Valley has its own tournament scheduled for Saturday.
