Two Upsets Highlight Opening Day Of Morales Memorial Tournament

FALCONER - A couple of wrestling upsets highlighted the first round of the 13th annual Patrick J. Morales Memorial Tournament on Friday.

Billy Fleming of Cattaraugus-Little Valley and Teddy Grieswich of Dunkirk pulled off the upsets.

Fleming, the ninth seed, defeated top-seed Nick Zentz of Westfield-Ripley-Chautauqua Lake, 8-6, at 152 pounds while Grieswich, a seventh seed, beat second-seeded Logan Martin of C-LV, 9-2.

Team standings show host Falconer leading with 112 points followed by Jamestown with 81, Union City, Pa., 71, Eisenhower 64 and Maple Grove 53.

Rounding out the Top 10 in the 17-team field are Randolph with 45 points, C-LV 42, Frewsburg 40, Southwestern 39 and Dunkirk-Silver Creek 35.

Action resumes today at 10 a.m. with the semifinals at 11 a.m. and finals scheduled to begin at approximately 5 p.m.
