FALCONER - The Falconer Golden Falcons will be trying to make it three straight titles, and four in the past five years, when the 13th annual Patrick J. Morales Memorial Wrestling Tournament kicks off at Falconer High School on Friday at 5 p.m.
The Golden Falcons (15-1), currently ranked No. 3 amongst small schools by the Wrestling Review of Western New York, won't have an easy road, however, and will have to contend with 15 other solid squads from throughout our own area and Pennsylvania.
They include Westfield-Ripley-Chautauqua Lake (fourth in WNY), Jamestown (eighth in WNY amongst large schools), Randolph, Panama, Dunkirk, Salamanca, Cassadaga Valley, Frewsburg, Maple Grove, Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Pine Valley (ninth in WNY), Southwestern and, from Pennsylvania, Union City, Eisenhower, Harbor Creek and Cameron County.
"They've done a nice job the last few years putting together a good mix of local teams and (those from outside our area)," Falconer coach Drew Wilcox said. "The kids are looking forward to this, it's definitely an important one for them."
Following the first day of wrestling, action restarts on Saturday at 10 a.m., with the finals tentatively scheduled for 5 p.m. that evening.
Seedings for the tournament will be released on Thursday night.
