Donald F. Gorman, 85, of 2923 Greenhurst Ave., passed away (Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012), in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
A lifelong area resident, he was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Jamestown, the son of Nelson and Beatrice Catlin Gorman.
He was a 1947 graduate of Bemus Point High School, where he had received his varsity letter in all sports, and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the European, Mediterranean and Pacific theaters from 1943 to 1946, and also had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 in the Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean.

He was employed as a salesman in the area and in earlier years was employed by Dairylee Milk, Whaland Wholesale, Keebler Biscuit Co., and Russer Meats. He was one of the original Four Houseman real estate agents for the Turner and Griffth Real Estate, and also had sold for the Olson Reality and Greenfield Reality. In 1977 he built the G's Bait & Tackle in Greenhurst, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1992.
He was a former member and past president of Grocery Mfg. of Jamestown, a former member of the Ellery Rod & Gun Club having served as secretary and on the board of directors, and a former member of the Jamestown Moose Lodge. He joined the American Legion in 1946 having been a member of the American Legions in Ellery, Jamestown and Randolph. He presently is a member of the Samuel Derby Post 556 and the John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veterans of Foreign Wars, DAV Chapter 47 and the AMVETS.
Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bird watching, gardening, flowers, and his two boxer dogs: Elmo and Tiffany. He also enjoyed years of friendship with his close friends and neighbors Everett and Marcia Hallberg and Doc Donofrio.
He is survived by his wife, Marion L. Lassen Gorman, whom he married Aug. 31, 1949, in Immanuel Lutheran Church; three sons: David (Deborah) Gorman and Daniel (Kris) Gorman, both of Fluvanna, and Dale (Dee) Gorman of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren: David and Danielle of Ft. Myers Fla., Kaitlin, Haley, Bryan and Blake Gorman; two step grandchildren: Lori and Christine; and a sister, Janice Morrison of Jamestown.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Inurnment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
Memorials may be donated to the Fluvanna Fire Department; or the Fluvanna Community Church.
