Elizabeth M. “Betty” Collins

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Collins, 102, of 8 Crane St., formerly of 118 Lakeview Ave., Jamestown, N.Y., passed away Friday (Dec. 28, 2012), in Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late Frank J. and Myrtle Farley Collins.

Betty was a 1932 graduate of Jamestown High School.

Before her retirement in 1973, she was the store manager for the former Ormond Hosiery Shop in the Hotel Jamestown. She had also worked for the former Printz Company and Brooks Store in the Chautauqua Mall.

She was a longtime active communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, where she was past president of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Jamestown Zonta Club, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and was a volunteer at WCA Hospital for many years in the snack shop and the gift store.

Surviving is a sister Doris Nelson of Jamestown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins including; Shirley (Jerry) De-Long of Roanoke, Va., Richard (Dolly) Collins of Naples, Fla., Sue (Tom) Benson, John (Cheryl) Collins Jr., Mark Collins, Joan Johnson, Thomas Nelson, Patti Dudenhofer and Gregg DeLong. all of Jamestown, Jayne Walker of Centerville, Pa., Tim (Julie) DeLong of Peyton, Colo., Stephanie (Brian) Boush of Salem, Va., Megan Benson of Savannah, Ga., Katie Benson of Buffalo, N.Y., and Amy (Keith) Mait of Chicago, Ill.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, JB and Molly Collins; her uncle, Louis Collins; a brother, John Collins; and a sister, Myrtle Norris.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be made to the Holy Apostles Parish, 508 Cherry St., Jamestown, NY 14701; or to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.
