In keeping with their belief of helping those in need, local Ingjald Lodge 65 of the International Order of Vikings recently donated $500 to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Linda Smith, Vikings member, after reading about Bill Stevenson's campaign to "Stuff the Bus" with Holiday Tours, alerted Vikings trustees that a donation might be a good way to use the Vikings money. Russ Bell, Fastenal general manager, was then asked what the best way to spend $500 would be. Bell told Vikings trustees that they would more than double the donation with products they sold. Hundreds of large plastic bags, shovels, can liners and dozens of rolls of duct tape were included.
In the end, $1,573.77 was designated as aid to victims. Bryan Nelson, head Vikings trustee, expressed thanks and appreciation to Fastenal for partnering in the humanitarian effort.

Tim Miller, Vikings chief, said the Jamestown Vikings Lodge has repeatedly responded to requests for aid. The Salvation Army was given $500 in support of the winter coat project. Donations of varying amounts have been given to St. Susan Center, Maple Springs Fire Department, Dewittville Fire Department, Ellery Center Fire Department, Chautauqua Lake Association, Marie Barone Golf Tournament, Hospice of Chautauqua County, Fenton Museum, Veterans Park relocation, WCA Emergency Room campaign, SPCA, JNP, Rescue Mission and the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy.
Vikings volunteers have participated in the Salvation Army Red Kettle drive for many years and in the New York State Adopt-A-Highway program.
