December 27, 2012
The Post-Journal

Florence R. Cole, 92, of Baker Road in Ashville, N.Y., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at the home of her daughter.

Mrs. Cole was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Columbus, Pa., a daughter of the late Walter A. and Leanora Gates Ross.

She was raised and educated in Columbus, Pa., graduating from the Dean School. Following high school, Florence worked at Raymond Manufacturing in Corry as well as Murphy's and Woolworth's. Florence also enjoyed teaching first aid for the American Red Cross. Florence was a former member of the United Presbyterian Church of Corry and a current member of the Panama Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Golden Needles of the Harmony Historical Society. Since Florence's grandmother was a local herbalist and midwife, she was always fascinated by the medical field. Florence was well read and dabbled with carpentry and plumbing projects as a self-taught contractor. Florence was a problem solver and could find a way to fix just about anything. She was strong-willed and amazed her family and friends when she learned to drive a car at age 72. Florence could complete any crossword puzzle she put her hands on. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed bird watching and gardening. Florence was the family "glue" and one of the wisest women the world had to offer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. Cole; three sisters, Treva Ross, Ula Vieira, and Gladys Volk; brothers, Grant Ross and Howard Ross; and a great-grandson. Mrs. Cole is survived by two daughters, Sally (James) Hutchison of Ashville, NY, and Jerane McKinstry Dunda of Corpus Christi, TX; a brother, Bernard (Nancy) Ross of Columbus, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; grandsons, Darren McKinstry and Scott McKinstry; granddaughters, Heather Hutchison-Anderson, Nora (Michael) Ludwig, and Jaime (Craig) Damon; and great-grandchildren, Amber, Charity, Isaac, and Eliana Ludwig, Baker and Willa Anderson, and Collin and Karolynn McKinstry. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday Dec. 29, 2012 at the Panama Baptist Church, Panama, NY with Pastor Rodney Sprowles, officiating.
