ALLEGANY - Allegany-Limestone's Katie Scott came through when it counted as the Lady Gators (1-1, 3-1) fought back to pull out a dramatic 45-44 win over Southwestern (0-3, 1-5) in a hard-fought Division 1 girls basketball game on Friday night.
The Lady Gators were up by three points after the first quarter, but Southwestern outscored them 13-4 in the second period for a 26-20 lead at the half.
At the end of the third, the Lady Trojans still held a four-point lead, but the two teams battled back-and-forth through the final quarter with three lead changes alone in the final minute.
With time winding down, Southwestern took the lead after Kara Schutte hit a shot from the field and was fouled, but Scott came back down the floor and nailed the winning field goal with under four seconds remaining. The Lady Trojans got the rebound, but their final shot missed its mark at the buzzer.
Halee George led Allegany-Limestone with 14 points and also had four rebounds and five steals, Scott added 10 points, Brandi Fuller had five rebounds and four steals and Julie Barton added four steals and two assists.
For Southwestern, Jenna Yuchnitz had an outstanding game with 22 points and seven rebounds while Emily Wuebbolt added 11 rebounds, Schutte collected four boards with three assists and Alex Sullivan had three rebounds.
