Maycock’s 30 Points Lead Randolph Past Cassadaga Valley

SINCLAIRVILLE -''I tried everything on defense,'' said Cassadaga Valley coach Mark Petersen after Randolph's McKenna Maycock came through with a banner performance in Division 2 girls basketball on Friday night.

Maycock tossed in 30 points, with several coming in the first quarter, as Randolph went to 3-0 in the league and 5-1 overall with a 56-32 verdict over Cassadaga Valley (1-1, 3-2).

''She started hot,'' said Petersen as Maycock swished 15 points in a 20-10 first quarter advantage.

Most of the baskets were on layups, but she added a 3-pointer.

Maycock added five more points in the second quarter for 20 points in a 34-14 halftime edge. She also grabbed 14 points.

Mandy Finch provided five steals and five assists while hauling down nine rebounds for the Lady Cardinals.

Shawana Miller grabbed 12 rebounds and Kristi Zink 11 for the Lady Cougars. Zink led in scoring with nine points and Miller contributed eight.

FREWSBURG CRUISES

SALAMANCA - Thanks to a pair of big offensive performances by Shawna Raymond and Reyanne Strong, Frewsburg pulled away early to post a 74-35 victory over Salamanca (0-3, 3-4).

Strong led the way with 27 points and Raymond netted 25 points and had the double-double with 13 rebounds, including 10 on offense, and added nine assists and eight steals.

The Lady Warriors held a 6-5 lead in the first quarter, but Frewsburg (2-0, 5-1) went on a 19-1 run and never looked back.

Also for the Bears, Olivia Lynn pulled down seven rebounds, Emily Hair added six assists and Annie Berg added five assists.

For Salamanca, ShaeSmith scored nine points and had eight rebounds and Alyssa Coustenis netted eight points with three boards and three steals.
