''We needed a big win especially with back-to-back games with Chautauqua Lake and Clymer,'' said coach Mary Bartkowski after Maple Grove recorded a Division 3 girls basketball win over Forestville (2-4, 0-2), 59-43, on Thursday.

The Lady Red Dragons dominated the boards, 41-17, with Lauren Nickerson grabbing 11 and Nickara Liddell having eight.

Jordan Ahlstrom and Nickerson, who had a double-double, combined for 35 points with Ahlstrom swishing five 3-pointers with two being in an 18-8 third quarter that broke it open.

Ahlstrom wound up with 19 points and Nickerson 16 points while Emily Swanson contributed 10 points for the hosts (1-1, 2-3).

Ahlstrom also handed out four assists and the Maple Grove press was a factor as it created several turnovers.
