Choir To Present Christmas Cantata
The Zion Covenant Chancel Choir, directed by Brian A. Bogey, will present ''Season of Praise,'' a Christmas cantata by Joseph Martin, at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. This musical work portrays a journey from darkness to light incorporation carols and original new music capturing the mystery and majesty of the season. The Rev. Rick Miller, senior pastor, will be the narrator and he will also deliver the meditation ''Something to Sing and Shout About.'' Laurel Brown will be the soprano soloist and Faith Graham will play a violin solo for the offertory. The public is welcome to attend.
Church Plans Christmas Service
First Presbyterian Church will have two Christmas season services. The first service is at 10:30 a.m. Sunday and is worship with children in mind. The Rev. Donald Ray will tell the Christmas story with the singing of Christmas hymns. It will be followed by a holiday cookie reception. The second service on Christmas Eve is the annual Festival Candlelighting service in the sanctuary with the sacrament of Holy Communion. The Reverend Dr. Bruce Archibald will be preaching. The service starts at 9 p.m. with the gathering musical prelude starting at 8:30 p.m.
Thrift Store To Close Dec. 23
The St. James Thrift store, 141 Institute St., Jamestown, will be closed the week of Dec. 23 to celebrate Christmas. The store will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 2. The store will continue to have $2 bag sales on clothing. All winter coats and jackets will be $1 each. Winter mittens are free. Hats and scarves, donated by St. James Church parishioners are also available. Retired Senior Volunteer Program volunteers will be on hand for assistance.
Cantata Set
For Saturday
ELLINGTON - The Baptist Church of Ellington, 530 Route 62, will present the Christmas cantata ''Mary Did You Know'' at 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be a dinner immediately following the performance. The cantata is free and open to the public. For more information, call 673-6593 or 287-3269.
