Fast Start Propels JHS?Girls To Victory

CLARENCE - A quick start got the Jamestown Lady Red Raiders off on the right foot in their Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 opener Monday night.

Jamestown went on a 20-2 run in the first quarter en route to a 69-34 victory over Clarence to improve its record to 3-1.

Senior Rosa Velazquez scored all six points to lead the early surge. She also handed out four assists.

Sophomore Annie Campion led Jamestown in scoring with 16 points - eight in each half. Senior Karisha Tapia-Carmona contributed 13 points and sophomore Dazjah Coleman 10.

Haley Davis, a sophomore, grabbed 10 rebounds as Jamestown dominated the board, 48-27. Campion also produced four steals.

For Clarence, B. Budzinski recorded 10 points.

Jamestown hosts Williamsville North on Thursday.

CLYMER PREVAILS

CLYMER - Dani Reinwald scored 19 points and pulled down 22 rebounds and the Clymer Lady Pirates' defense allowed just 12 second-half points en route to a 45-39 victory over Maple Grove.

Jo-Linda Rhodes added 10 points, Carly McAfoose had 11 rebounds and Kayla Gilkinson chipped in five steals and four assists as Clymer improved to 4-1 on the season.

The Lady Red Dragons (1-2) led, 27-25, at intermission thanks to their fine shooting as they connected on five 3-pointers. But foul trouble and the Lady Pirates' improved defense was the difference in the second half.

Jordan Ahlstrom paced Maple Grove with 14 points, Nickara Liddell had 11 points and seven rebounds and Emily Swanson chipped in with six boards for Maple Grove.
