Dalaba Has Big Game, Cougars Run Record To 4-0

SINCLAIRVILLE - Junior Randy Dalaba had a couple of career bests for undefeated Cassadaga Valley in Division 2 boys basketball Monday night.

The 6-foot, 1-inch Dalaba connected for career highs with 24 points and 21 rebounds as the Cougars (4-0) beat Cattaraugus-Little Valley (3-3) in their league opener.

''He had a monster game,'' Cassadaga Valley coach Rich Clifford said.

Ten of Dalaba's rebounds were off the offensive boards. He also had a block and two assists.

Dalaba, who was 8-of-10 from the foul line, had 16 points in the first half as the hosts gained a 36-17 advantage.

Mike Lancaster added 14 points and nine rebounds and point guard Tim Bender had six assists and three steals while sinking 7-of-10 from the foul line. Kyle Runge, the fourth junior that starts for the Cougars, was stellar defensively with five steals.'

Overall, Cassadaga Valley hit an impressive 18-of-24 for 75 percent from the foul line.

Colt Agnew had 15 points, Luke Macakanja 13 and Mat Rupp 11 points for Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

PORTVILLE - ''He is a special player,'' said coach Fred Caya about the play of four-year varsity starter Zach Blask.

Blask tossed in 13 points, grabbed eight rebounds, handed out seven assists and made five steals as unbeaten Portville (2-0, 6-0) topped Randolph (1-1, 2-2), 62-46.

Josh Watson recorded 16 points, Curtis Caya 15 and Kyle Gallo 10 to join Blask with double figures for Portville, which played strong defense with a 3-2 zone.

Bryce Morrison of Randolph 23 points, including six 3-pointers. Reserve Hector Gracia contributed 11 points with 3 three-pointers.

Portville had a 38-20 rebounding margin with Curtis Caya leading the way with 12.

WILLIAMS HAS HUGE GAME

SALAMANCA - Silver Creek's Zed Williams found his way to the hoop with regularity, racking up 35 points as the Black Knights rolled to an 83-50 victory over Salamanca to remain undefeated (2-0, 6-0).

The Warriors (0-2, 2-3) made things interesting through the first half, trailing by 10 points, but Silver Creek's offense took advantage of missed shots and the Warriors allowed a number of layups in a 42-19 second-half run that put the game away.

In addition to Williams, Kane Kettle contributed 16 points for Silver Creek.

As for Salamanca, Damion Taylor and Bryce Stahlman each scored 12 points while Tanner John netted 11 points with nine rebounds and five assists.

CLYMER EDGES FALCONER

FALCONER -''We had an opportunity at the end, but it missed,'' said first-year coach Tim Anderson after Falconer lost a heart-breaking 57-54 decision to Clymer.

After Clymer missed a 1-and-1, Falconer had an opportunity to tie, but a 3-point attempt from 30 feet bounced off the rim as the game ended.

Dan Lictus led the Clymer offense with 23 points with seven points each in the first and third periods. Jake Wiggers contributed 13 points.

The Golden Falcons (0-6) led at halftime, 29-27, only to fall behind as the result of a 20-15 third stanza, led by Lictus.

Nick Conti was high for Falconer with 17 points and Mike Wilcox added 12.

Devon Cameron and Wilcox had seven rebounds, Kyle Peterson four assists, Cameron and Conti three assists, Nate Nowicki three steals and Mitch Cartert two in the defeat.

DRAGONS ROLL

Maple Grove (3-1) hosted Chautauqua Lake and it was a showcase for the Red Dragons' offense in a convincing 69-49 victory.

Corey Wefing was outstanding for the winners, pouring in 15 points, Will Soffel added 13 points and Austin Goerke scored 10 points with nine rebounds in a balanced attack that resulted a substantial 42-16 halftime lead and the Thunderbirds (1-3) were not able to gain much ground from that point on.

Jordan Briggs led Chautauqua Lake with 12 points and Ian Clute led the team in rebounds with seven.

CHAUTAUQUA LAKE (49)

HORNETS WIN

PANAMA - Panama held the lead after two quarters, but Forestville put two solid periods together in the second half for a 49-37 win.

The Panthers (0-1, 1-4) were in front at the half, 20-17, but the Hornets went on a 32-17 run the rest of the way, led by Jake Nosbisch, who poured in 12 points and completed the double-double with 12 rebounds. Wayne Hartloff added nine boards.

For Panama, Alec Blose was solid with 17 points and also had the double-double with 11 boards and six assists.
