ELYRIA, Ohio - A run at the start of the second half enabled Jamestown Community College to break the game wide open and close the first semester on a winning note with a record of 11-4 in NJCAA Division II women's basketball Friday night.
An 11-0 surge put the Jayhawks on top 40-24 in the early stages after intermission en route to a 60-44 victory over Lorain County CC (3-9).
Taylor Storer, Kelsie Beaver and Ashley DePane hit 3-pointers and DePane had another bucket during that stretch for the Jayhawks.
''We seized the moment and after the run they didn't get close,'' said JCC coach George Sisson, who also was happy with the way the Jayhawks made it to the foul line, where they connected on 18 attempts.
Defensively, the Jayhawks allowed just seven buckets in the second half when the lead was as high as 20 points.
Beaver scored 15 points with four being 3-pointers and was the only JCC player in double figures.
Storer had four assists and two steals, Kristin Biela and Alyse Kickbush each grabbed seven rebounds and Ashlynn Nickerson added four blocks for the winners.
Megan Miller recorded 13 points and Lillian Cvosecz contributed 11 points in the loss.
JCC is idle until Jan. 5 when it hosts Butler CCC at 1 p.m.
