RANDOLPH - Three-pointers were the difference as Randolph outlasted Salamanca in a double-overtime Division 2 basketball opener for both teams on Thursday night.
Tyler Mitchell hit two 3-pointers and Mitchell Maycock one to account for all nine points in the second overtime as the Cardinals (2-1) edged Salamanca (3-1), 76-75.
The Cardinals tossed in 13 3-pointers in 40 attempts compared to Salamanca's four. Maycock was the leader with five.
Salamanca had a shot that wasn't close in the waning seconds in the second overtime.
In the first overtime, Randolph stormed back with nine seconds left to gain a 67-67 tie. Miller made a steal and after Salamanca missed a pair of free throws, it was Nate Beaver making a running shot from about 6 feet to tie the game at the buzzer.
Randolph had a chance to win in regulation but missed a shot and the game went into overtime with the score at 59-59.
Beaver was high for Randolph with 20 points, Maycock and Miller had 15 each and Bryce Morrison added 13. Beaver had 10 rebounds and Morrison had six and added five assists.
Hector Garcia gave the Cardinals a big lift off the bench as he made a 3-pointer and a putback. His offense was important as Randolph had lost big men Cody Oldro and Conner McAllister on fouls.
Salamanca was led by Damion Taylor, who connected for 32 points with 16 points in the fourth quarter and in the overtimes. He hit 6 of 6 from the foul line during that stretch.
Jared Fish had 17 points and Bryce Stahlman added 15 points for the Warriors.
