Clymer Holds Off Southwestern

December 11, 2012
The Post-Journal

CLYMER - Clymer held Southwestern at bay for three quarters, but the Trojans (1-2) battled back in the final stanza before the Pirates (3-0) locked up a 49-43 non-league boys basketball on Monday night.

After building a 30-16 lead at the half, the Pirates seemed to have things in control, but Southwestern kept chipping away in the fourth period, cutting the lead to one point. But Mitch Einink hit a critical 2-point basket and Clymer made a few trips to the foul line as time wound down to end up with a six-point victory.

Matt DeStevens paced the Pirates with 13 points while Einink contributed 12 points and led in rebounds with eight and Dan Lictus added 10 points with six rebounds and Jake Wiggers also had six boards.

Kaine Kettle led the Black Knights (3-0) with 22 points, but he had plenty of help. Bill Brooks netted 21 points to go with 10 rebounds and three blocks while Zeddie Williams had another solid game with 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

"Kettle shot real well," Westfield coach Bob North said. "Brooks was impressive. He was tough inside. But Williams really makes them go."
