ERIE - In the first round of the Pennbriar Winter Tennis Classic, Lakewood's Matthew Johnson defeated Tim Whitman, 6-1 6-1, and Bryce Payne, also of Lakewood, downed D. Taylor, 6-2 6-4.
The quarterfinals of the event are scheduled for today at the Pennbriar Athletic Club and the tournament continues through Sunday.
