SHERMAN - Bryce Morrison's basket with time running out enabled Randolph to begin the boys basketball season with an exciting non-league win Friday.

Morrison capped a 14-point quarter with a layup with only five seconds left that allowed Randolph to score the last 10 points and overcome a large halftime deficit for a 56-55 win at Sherman.

After Morrison's bucket, Sherman got off a 20-footer that missed to end a disappointing finish. ''It is a tough loss but it's a good learning experience for our young team,'' said Sherman coach Cory Emory.

Led by Morrison's14 points and Mitchell Maycock's nine points, Randolph put together a 38-21 second half, including a 22-9 final quarter.

The foul line was a big factor as the Cardinals made 8-of-11 and Sherman just 9-of-25 with only 3-of-12 in the final eight minutes.

Morrison was high for the winners with 17 points followed by Tyler Miller with 13 points and Maycock 12 points. Nate Beaver recorded six assists.

Ryan Robson and Andrew Graham split 28 points for Sherman (2-1). Robson had nine assists and Graham four.

Connor McAllister led in rebounding with seven rebounds for the Cardinals while Robson and Jake Card had six each for the Wildcats as the rebounding was just about even.

The Wildcats made six of their eight 3-pointers in the first half to grab the 16-point margin. In the second half, it was Randolph's turn with five of their eight 3-pointers.
