Gabe Caprino shared his knowledge and experience of the Silk Road with Ms. Waite's fifth-grade social studies classes. Students were studying a unit on the ancient Silk Road trade route of the 1400s. Gabe studied in Xi'an, China for two months during the summer. He shared pictures, stories and artifacts of his journey while engaging students in a conversation of the differences in American and Chinese culture. He taught them how to write using Chinese characters rather than letters. In addition, he provided details of the Terra Cotta Warriors, a huge collection of sculptures found by farmers in Xi'an.
