The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Academy has awarded recruit Chad Wright with the $800 Dan Feather Memorial Scholarship.

Wright is attending the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Academy at Jamestown Community College in the hopes of pursuing a career in law enforcement. He is from Celoron and attended Randolph Central School, graduating in 2004.

The Dan Feather Memorial Scholarship was created by Verna Feather, the widow of Dan Feather, an 18-year veteran of the Jamestown Police Department. The recipient must be a Chautauqua County resident who is attending the Sheriff's Academy and possesses qualities which reflect the professionalism and character Feather demonstrated during his service as a police officer. The scholarship to Wright is the 15th that has been awarded.

It is the hope of Mrs. Feather that this scholarship can be a lasting memorial to Feather and also help those who are just starting out in the pursuit of a career in police work.

The scholarship is administrated through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.
