George V. Vangel

George V. Vangel, 75, of 16 Maple St. Jamestown, died Wednesday Nov. 28, 2012 in Buffalo Mercy Hospital.

He was born Oct. 31, 1937 in Jamestown, N.Y. the son of the late Nicholas and Olimba Kallo Vangel.

George was a veteran of the U.S. Army and prior to retirement, he was employed at Marlin Rockwell Corp. for 48 years.

He was an avid scuba diver, making many dives in Lake Erie searching for shipwrecks. He also studied and trained in karate, earning his black belt. George had a love for all animals, especially his cat, Gypsy. Most of all, his family was most important to him and he would do anything for them.

Surviving are two sons, Nick (Jessica) Vangel of Jamestown; John Sherman Vangel of Girard, Pa.; and a sister, Martha Vangel of Jamestown. He was overjoyed knowing he would be a grandfather for the first time in July.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Nicholas Qirakou.

At George's request, services will be private. Visitation will not be observed.
