The Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown has announced open registration for the winter indoor co-ed flag football program. Games will begin the week of Jan. 14. Players are encouraged to register as soon as possible, especially due to the difficulty in forming teams and setting schedules caused by numerous late registrations.
Flag football is open to boys and girls in grades 2 through 12, with teams in three divisions. This will be a co-ed, non-contact program stressing fundamentals of passing, running, rules and sportsmanship. Team T-shirts and flag belts are provided. Non-marking sneakers are required.
Flag football will be held weekday evenings, one hour per week, currently scheduled to begin Jan. 15 and running up to mid-March. Three divisions will be formed based on age, school grade and experience. Registrations are being accepted in person at the Boys & Girls Club main office now through Jan. 4.
The program registration fees for flag football will be $30 per participant. In addition, a Boys & Girls Club youth membership is required for participation, at a cost of $15 per year. Teens attending Jamestown Public Schools are eligible for a reduced membership fee of $5 with teen program registration forms.
Under the 21st Century grant, teens may also qualify for a partial one time athletic scholarship. A limited number of financial need scholarships will be available for all ages.
Parents and coaches should also note that previous indoor or outdoor football rosters will not remain intact as every effort is made to balance teams based on age, grade and playing experience.
