Cattaraugus County Seeks Public Comment On Emergency Plan Update

November 30, 2012
The Post-Journal

LITTLE VALLEY - Cattaraugus County continues to seek public comments on its Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. A questionnaire for the public is available online through the county's website at www.cattco.org. The five-question survey is easy to complete and will assist the county in completing its mandatory five-year update of its existing plan.

The purpose of this plan is to identify key actions that can be taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risks to human life and property from natural disasters such as floods, severe storms, and ice storms.

Having a FEMA-approved mitigation plan also maintains the county's and its partners' eligibility for certain federal disaster assistance and hazard mitigation funding programs. All municipalities and organizations that participate in the county plan or have their own approved plan are eligible for FEMA pre-disaster funding. This funding can be used to identify and construct projects that reduce long-term risks to life and property from a natural disaster.

For further information and updates see the Cattaraugus County website or contact Crystal Gross, Cattaraugus County Department of Public Works at 938-2442 or by email at CRGross@cattco.org.
