Sacred Heart Parish announced three scholarships were awarded to seniors of the parish for their accomplishments.
Robert Newell received the Lori Ventura Scholarship. He has taught religious education classes for several years, was an usher, helped with the children's programs and parties, retreats, worked with the youth group and chaperoned field trips. At Southwestern High School, he ranked fifth in his class with a 4.0 grade point average, was Student Council, Honor Society and Key Club president. He was also recognized by The Post-Journal in a ''Standing Out in the Crowd'' article, was named to the All Western NY All-Academic Football team, Sportsmanship Award in the Division 1 High School Golf League and named to the Division 1 All-Star Golf Team. Newell also volunteered more than 250 hours at St. Susan's Soup Kitchen, the Chautauqua County Humane Society, has been a Salvation Army bell ringer, worked on several walks and coached Little League. He attends the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Gabby Gedz, a freshman at Nazareth College, received the Sacred Heart Scholarship for teaching religious education for several years, sang at Mass, helped with church activities and with dinners. A graduate of Frewsburg high School, she received the Presidential Scholar, Junior Optimist and Triple C Awards and the Lion of the Year for community service. She was a member of the varsity girls swim team, earning the Coaches and Captains awards, the Sportsmanship Award for Section VI swimming and was named the Most Valuable Swimmer. She was National Honor Society treasurer, class president and participated in SADD, Envirothon and the Pep Club. She also volunteered for many community organizations.

Zach Lubi received the Panama Altar and Rosary Society scholarship. He has volunteered at Our Lady of Snows dinners and helped with several programs. Zach is a Panama Central School graduate and participated in basketball and several other sports. He has also volunteered at the Chautauqua County Humane Society, the YMCA and many other community programs.
