Thieves broke into the barn of W.J. Johnson on Water Street in Westfield early the previous day and stole his driving horse valued at $150. Only the horse and bridle were taken. Mr. Johnson lived but a few feet from the barn. Officers Ford and Hopper traced the horse to the road leading to the Westfield creek by the bridge. The thieves removed the animal's shoes after leading him to the creek for fear that he would be tracked.
