When asked how he wanted his New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D championship team to be remembered, Randolph senior Jordan Dowiasz didn't hesitate.

''The Underdogs, no doubt,'' he said moments after the Cardinals defeated Tuckahoe of Section 1, 28-7, on Friday afternoon at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. ''We were under the radar. Nobody saw us coming here.''

But there they were on Ernie Davis Legends Field on Thanksgiving weekend, providing retiring coach Pat Slater with his third state championship.

Slater, who began coaching at Randolph in 1979, was asked what he believes his legacy is.

''I don't know,'' he said. ''That's for somebody else to decide. I've had a lot of good kids and that's what it's all about. I've also had a lot of good coaches.''

To commemorate the accomplishments of both players and coaches, The Post-Journal has put together a poster page from the title game. It can be found on Page C8.
