Chamber Sponsoring Superstorm Relief Drive

November 20, 2012
The Post-Journal

The Jamestown Community Chamber of Commerce is accepting donations for its Stuff the Buses drive for those affected by Superstorm Sandy in the New York City area.

Two Holiday Tours buses are scheduled to leave Jamestown for New York City following the Downtown Jamestown Holiday Parade on Friday, Nov. 30. The cargo compartments of both buses would normally be empty on the trip, but the chamber is working to make sure they are filled with goods to help clean up in the wake of the storm and to serve people in need.

"This effort is the brainchild of Bill Stevenson, a member of the board of the Jamestown Community Chamber," said Marty Idzik, Jamestown chamber coordinator. "He was aware that these buses are headed to New York, and that their cargo spaces would be empty. We are very happy to be coordinating this effort to help our downstate neighbors in their time of need."

Donated items can be taken to the Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation, 19 W. Third St.; the Robert H. Jackson Center, 305 E. Fourth St.; or the Reg Lenna Civic Center, 116 E. Third St. In addition, the chamber will have a truck in the holiday parade on Nov. 30 for those who want to bring their donations to the parade itself and donate during the parade.

The effort is co-sponsored by Holiday Tours, the Media One Group radio stations, the DJDC and the Jamestown Community Chamber of Commerce.
