ITHACA - Ryan Guynup came in sixth, improving on his eighth place last year, for Jamestown Community College on Saturday at the New York State Collegiate Tournament at Cornell University.
The 149-pound Guynup compiled a 3-3 record as the JCC finished 16th among 19 teams with 12 points.
Cornell won the title with 183 points, Columbia had 152, Hofstra 135, University at Buffalo 130 and Army 125.
Guynup, who was one of five JCC wrestlers in the tournament, began with a medical default over Daniel Palmer of Brockport State.
Then Guynup was pinned by Bobby Derna of Cortland in two minutes before rallying to a win over Kyle Wierzbicki of Oneonta State, 7-3. Then he pinned Dustin Jones of Oswego State in 3:57.
Guynup lost to Brad Mayville of Rochester Institute of Technology in 4:58 and 4-2 to Mark Spataro of Hofstra.
Pat Saase (165) of JCC was pinned by Evan Connors of Ithaca in 1:34; defeated John Fitzsimmons of New York University in 4:21 and lost to Kris Schimek of Niagara County CC,16-0.
Schimek, the former Pine Valley standout, finished seventh in the tournament.
At 125, Tashean Wilson of the Jayhawks began with a loss to MVP Nahshon Garrett of Cornell in 2:21 and won a medical default over Barney Pierce of Niagara University. Wilson finished with a 1-2 record after losing to Alexander Pugh of Oneonta State in 1:30.
Tom Davidson and Ryan Richter of JCC compiled an 0-2 records.
Davidson (133) was pinned by Kenneth Albert of Hunter College in 4:40 and decisioned by Justin Farmer of Buffalo, 21-8.
Richter (184) was dealt a 5-4 loss by Kyle Mckeigham and lost by a 7-0 score to Will Parks of Cortland.
The Jayhawks are off until Nov. 30 when they travels to Niagara County for a dual meet and then competes on Dec. 1 at the NCCC Open Tournament.
