FALCONER - Members of the Rodeo City Senior Citizens met recently at the Falcons Nest at the Ross Grange Hall in Falconer for the Thanksgiving dinner and special program to remember veterans.
The Rev. Raymond McGinnis presented to those present a program entitled "Remembering Our Veterans." The program started with military and religious symbols which he shared their stories. These included the framed American flag, the golden cross, the picture of the airplane, the cutlass sword and the hat. The symbols were provided by Gordon Domney, Dean Smith and Winston Bartholomew. The theme songs of the various branches of our service people were sung by all, and then the veterans of each branch were recognized and honored. Veterans present for the day stood and were given a round of applause for their service to our nation. An important statement was given by McGinnis, is that these people served so that we did not have to. However he said, there were many who worked back in this country during the war years to provide the needed supplies. McGinnis then read a Litany of Thanksgiving with the people responding. The presentation was concluded with the song "My Country 'Tis of Thee" which was sung by all. A special blessing was given to those who are standing in need.
Leona Peterson, Rodeo City Senior Citizens president, opened the meeting with a welcome, and introduced Gordon Domney who gave the blessing prior to the meal. Domney asked for a special blessing on those military people who are serving our country. The meal was a catered turkey dinner provided at the Falcons Nest, and enjoyed by all.
Table decorations were provided by Raymond and Marge McGinnis. A nominating committee for officers for 2013 was created, and will give a report at the next meeting.
Wagon master Winston Bartholomew announced that the December bus tour to Cambridge Springs, Pa. is filled and will be departing promptly at 10 a.m. on Dec. 5.
The next meeting of the Rodeo City Senior Citizens will be on Friday, Dec. 14 at the Gerry United Methodist Church at noon. This will be a Christmas dinner, and a ham will be provided. All those attending are encouraged to bring a dish of food to add to the meal, and their own table setting. Canned goods for the food pantry will be collected at the meeting as well, and all are encouraged to participate. New members are always welcome.
