Auction Company To Help Frewsburg Fire Department

FREWSBURG - With Christmas fast approaching, a local business is getting into the spirit of giving.

Himes Auction Company will be hosting an auction at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Frewsburg Fireman's grounds with the businesses' commission benefitting the Frewsburg Fire Department. Greg Himes, Himes Auction Company owner, said, along with his business partner Bill Himes, they are collecting donated gift certificates from area businesses to use toward making gift baskets. Himes said businesses can call him at 499-1418 or Bill at 499-6077 to make a donation.

''We have people lined up so when people donate gift certificates we can use the items to make gift baskets,'' he said. ''We will have stuff like candles, candy and miscellaneous stuff for the gift baskets. For example, we had a gift certificate from Salon 1 for an auction and we used it to buy hair products and made a gift basket.''

Himes said it is difficult to know what type of gift baskets will be available for the auction because they're still collecting donations. He said people can be assured there will be plenty of holiday items like Christmas decor and decorations available.

The business, about once a month, typically holds antique, furniture and collectible auctions at the Frewsburg Fireman's grounds. Himes said those items will also be collected for the auction.

''Once a month, that is what we usually auction off on consignment and we charge a commission,'' he said. ''This time, our commission will be going to the Frewsburg Fire Department, but people donating items for the auction will still get their money.''

Himes said there will also be a 50/50 giveaway, a boys and girls bike giveaway and food. Frewsburg Fire Department officials will also be there with fire trucks decorated with Christmas lights.

''People with kids can check out the fire trucks and they can talk to the firemen,'' Himes said. ''They (Frewsburg Fire Department) have helped us out all year. Allowing us to use the fire hall to do auctions. We wanted to help them out.''

Himes said fire department officials are looking to upgrade old supplies and want to purchase more equipment to get more volunteer firefighters involved. He said the auction company held a similar auction to benefit the 4-H in March, which raised $1,800.
