Ashley Eck, daughter of Glenn and Debra Eck, has been selected to represent Chautauqua County in the Miss New York Teen USA 2013 pageant.
The Miss Teen New York USA pageant is part of the Miss Universe family of pageants. She is excited for this opportunity to represent Chautauqua County in a positive way to the state-wide audience at the pageant in Westchester County in January.
Eck is a graduate of Jamestown High School and is currently studying for degrees in theatre, arts for children and early childhood education at The College at Brockport. In the future she hopes to use her passion for the arts to help children learn in fun and innovative ways, as well as being a performer herself. This past summer she was able to get a taste of her future career while interning with the Playground Drama Camp at SUNY Fredonia.
She is no stranger to the spotlight, having appeared on stage in the region many times in both Jamestown High School musicals, and with the Jamestown Community College Uncommoners. She has also performed with the Drama Enrichment Program and is delighted to be returning to perform with them in this year's holiday show. This past year she has also been active on the silver screen, performing in several independent productions including the soon to be released feature film, "Winter's Kill."
Eck has also been busy on the stage at Brockport. Already as a freshman she has been part of the ensemble for "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," has played Kitty in "Murder on Arrival" on the black box stage and is an active member of both The Harlequins and the Barrel of Monkeys Improv. Troupe.
Eck is hoping to be a role model for area youth and show them that no matter where you come from, if you work hard and seize opportunity you can make your dreams come true. Her platform for Miss New York Teen USA is the importance of the arts in education. She hopes to showcase Chautauqua County's many wonderful programs that help our youth find and pursue their passion.
