A Jamestown man was taken to WCA Hospital after being hit by a van Thursday in a busy city intersection as school was letting out for the day.

Emergency personnel responded to a report of a personal-injury accident in front of Love Elementary School at the intersection of North Main Street and East Eighth Street at 3:20 p.m. According to Jamestown Police, 33-year-old Mark Briggs of Jamestown was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Venture van westbound on East Eighth Street when he turned left onto North Main Street and collided with a pedestrian. The pedestrian was walking his puppy on a leash with the traffic signal in the crosswalk.

The pedestrian was taken to WCA Hospital for what were considered to be non-life-threatening injuries while the dog was taken by a relative to a local veterinarian.

A Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputy witnessed the accident and assisted with the investigation.

Briggs was charged with failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian and failure to use due care. He is scheduled to appear in city Traffic Court next month.
