What could be better than a nice, relaxing tea party?
How about one that will potentially help to save the lives of community members in need.
This is what will be taking place at Moon Brook Country Club on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Western New York Kidney Connection will be hosting an "American Girl" Christmas Tea Party Fundraiser with all proceeds to benefit community members who require kidney transplants.
Georgia Swanson, left, and Gwendolyn Swanson pose with their American Girl dolls as Jeanette Ostrom reads to them.
"We're inviting some performers to each portray an American Girl character," said Jeanette Ostrom, Kidney Connection founder. "We're having a salon, where we will do hairstyles so the little girls can look like their dolls. We'll do manicures and take photographs of the girls with their dolls. We'll have a giveaway for an American Girl doll, as well as some other crafts. Tickets for the giveaway are $5 each or three for $10. "
With regard to the buffet, finger foods such as tea sandwiches, scones and desserts will be available during the event.
"We want to make it feel like a very fancy tea party for the little girls," said Ostrom. "We have little girls coming from 2 years old up to 11, but no one is too old to enjoy this."
According to Ostrom, all the money raised from the event will go toward the Western New York Kidney Connection to help local residents who need kidney transplants. So far, the Kidney Connection has brought together seven strangers in the area with seven people who have been in need of a kidney transplant.
"We have seven healthy people who have received transplants and no longer need dialysis to help them filter their blood," said Ostrom.
Tickets for the event are $30 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under. An appointment for the hair salon and manicure booth which will be available at the tea party will cost $5 each.
Any questions about the event can be directed to 450-2272. According to Ostrom, tickets are going fast, and tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
"The Kidney Connection is an invaluable resource in the community," said Ostrom. "We encourage people to visit out website at www.wnykidneyconnection.org to see how far it has come in helping the lives of members in the community. The Kidney Connection appreciates all the help it receives from the community. It could not be as successful as it is without the community's help."
