MAYVILLE - Students of the Month at Chautauqua Lake Central School, honored for September achievements, are Andrew Pezzulo, Megan Stahlsmith, Kara Tenpas, Abigail Andriaccio, Sara Russin, and Autumn Shuskie.
The student recognition program honors students in seventh through 12th grades whose classroom performance, attitude toward learning, work ethic and extra-curricular activities set them apart.
Andrew Pezzulo, 12th grade, is the son of Cheryl Love of Mayville. Science and history are Andrew's favorite subjects, and he plans to attend college after graduating in June. His school activities include football, wrestling and golf, and he enjoys working and hiking in the gorge. When asked what person in history he admires, Andrew said George Washington because he was a decently honest man and believed there should be no political parties. To be another person for a day, Andrew chose Vince Wilfork because the football player is "hands down, the best defensive lineman in the NFL."
Megan Stahlsmith, 11th grade, is the daughter of Dennie Stahlsmith of Mayville and Brian Stahlsmith of Stedman. Art, Holocaust studies and history are her favorite subjects. Megan participates on the varsity tennis team and is also involved with the Impact Club, Peer Education, Sources of Strength, Spanish Club, the High School Bowl academic team and the school musicals. Outside of school, she is a member of her church youth group and Chautauqua County Footsteps. Megan hopes to spend a year as a foreign exchange student or go on a mission trip before attending college to major in history education and humanities. Time with the Peace Corps is also a consideration for her. George Washington was Megan's choice of a person she admires because he had the respect of so many people and he treated them with respect. Megan selected Kate Middleton as the person she would like to be for a day saying, "Every girl wants to be a princess!"
Kara Rae Tenpas, 10th grade, is the daughter of Anne and Emmett Tenpas of Ashville. Math, science and engineering as her favorite subjects. Kara is a member of Student Administration and she competes on the varsity swimming and basketball teams at Chautauqua Lake. She is active with her youth group and enjoys painting and reading. Attending college to study engineering is Kara's plan after high school. For one day Kara would like to be a top secret government agent so she would know everything.
Abigail Rose Andriaccio, ninth grade, is the daughter of Sally and Nick Andriaccio of Mayville. Abigail enjoys math and French. She participates in soccer and softball in high school and is a member of Student Administration, Peer Education and Ski Club. Outside of school she participates in indoor soccer at Lakewood YMCA and in the summer soccer program. Future plans include college and a career as an interior designer. Rosa Parks is the person in history whom Abigail admires because she stood up for what she wanted and did not give up. Abigail chose her mother as the person she would like to be for a day because "she is a huge inspiration to me and she is amazing."
Sarah Anne Marie Russin, eighth grade, is the daughter of Lisa and Bob Russin of Mayville. Math and science are Sarah's favorite classes and she participates in soccer and track. Outside of school she loves to spend time with her dog Sampson. After high school Sarah would like to go to college and become a surgeon. The people she admires are Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton because they stood up for women's rights. For a day, Sarah would like to be a senior citizen because "I love bingo."
Autumn Shuskie, seventh grade, is the daughter of Jen and Dave Burlee of Mayville. Science and English are her favorite classes. Autumn participates in tennis; plays flute in the band; and loves reading, acting, drawing and singing. She is involved in many family activities and enjoys fishing, sports, and reading. Long-range plans include college to study paleontology and maybe become a professional tennis player. Her favorite person in history is Billie Jean King because she was a professional tennis player and won 12 major titles. For a day, Autumn wants to be President of the United States "to find out or read the black book of secrets."
