Proud To Be An American

November 9, 2012
The Post-Journal

To the Readers' Forum:

On Election Day, Americans, both popularly and electorally, voted for equality, scientific progress, a fair tax system that doesn't favor the very rich, an improving economy, and a solid handle on foreign affairs.

Since then, I am more proud than ever to be an American.

I guess conservatives will have to wait at least another four years for their "small" government that regulates/limits important stem cell research, actively blocks gay marriage, controls what women can do with their bodies, gives hundreds of billions of tax revenue to the personal bank accounts of the rich, actively limits funds to public education, and forces science teachers to pretend that the myth of creation is science.

Small government? Only small in the areas they personally want it to be. On Election Day, America showed it realizes this.

Congrats, U.S.
